If ya put the seed to shallow in soil ,,ive noticed that sometimes happens. not enough time for the dirt to remove the hull.

THG, I started them in seed starter soil as to Mandala's instructions. I usually use the paper towel method but I followed their instructions on these seeds.

Yes, it did get the damage from using 2 pins to remove a seed cap that was still firmly attached. I know, I've done it more than once, looks just like that.

If it had a long, stretched stem and was still holding it's cap fully (not just hanging on a bit), then I would say you did the right thing helping it off, but as the stem is short, most likely it was only up for a short time when you noticed it, and you didn't give it enough time to use the humidity in your dome/tenting, however you keep rh up, to soften it and allow it to drop. Next time, leave them alone an extra day, and give it a spritz of water to help out.

Okay, so if it's not weak genetics, and you buggered it up by trying to assist nature with removing the seed cap,...... than I retract my comment about "keeping an eye open for nanners" down the line.......

cheers ~,~

Almost always if the seedling pops with the hull its because it was not planted deep enough. The damp soil is the remover of the hull. With the PT method the Paper towel being folded is what helps remove the hull,,its called friction.

YAY, the little pot plant that could....

To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded.”

If I remember correctly my ratio of males to females has never been that good. I think that is where my luck will run out. 1 out of 4 I will be happy. I also have my last Joey Weed Blueberry growing, I really hope that one is female because Joey Weed is no more. Thanks 4u.
