Hello everyone, I am unsure about the ph I should be using with this soilless mix. I think I should be ph'ing to hydroponic range not soil range am I correct? I usually grow in soil but this is all I could get .

well my good sir your in luck i just so happen to be growing in a soiless mix using hydro myself. you will want your ph to be around.5.0 let it drift to 6.0 then readjust back to 5.0 if you want you can use my grow as a ref point

Thanks a lot Sin. I was unsure because of the compost in it.

I think that 5.0 is a bit low for hydro. I would start somewhere around 5.3 or 5.4 and let it drift to about 6.0.

If you have compost in it, I'm not sure I would call it a soilless mixture.

a soiless mix imo is inert

your mix isnt inert and therefore I wouldnt use hydro pH charts but rather Soil ones

My compost is bark fines, I read somewhere bark fines have no nutritional value. Would that still put the ph range to the soil side?

If it has no nutritional value, it isn't compost.

What kinda Hydro setup are you using that allows you to use Peat,Vermiculite, and Compost?

Well it is not supposed to be hydro, I have always used dirt mixed with perlite and used GH flora nova nutes phed to 6.5 and everything was fine. Now I have this soilless stuff that I have never used before. Can't I use it the same way I did with the dirt and perlite? I need to know whether it is true soilless or not so I know which ph range to use.

I would go with PH ing for soil and if I start to see nutrient deficiencies drop the ph down a little.

Thanks Ozzy, that is what I will do. Can you describe what the deficiency I would see first would look like that would tell me I should lower ph range?

IMO only the plant can tell you some plant need more of one fert then others. You really can not plan for a deficiency because some strains dont feed the same as others for that matter plants from the same seed batch dont always use the nutes the same

What kind of bark fines? What trees did it come from? Some trees are bad for mj....the fungi will love it if you are organic.

Thank you Ozzy , Duck and everyone else for your help. I will use your advice and see how it goes. All I know about the bark fines is what it says on the bag, which is not much.

This is my guinea pig I used to find the ph range for my media. The leaves look like this when using low ph 5.8. I flushed with plain water ph 8, let soil dry out then fed with 6.5 ph ed nutes. Plant is getting better so I guess I will use it like I used my previous soil. What kind of deficiency do you think it is,

You can not tell what was locked out, all that's showing is ph damage
