cloning question

I know this isnt the right place to start a clone thread but its the closest we have. At the moment I have no room for my propagation dome and tray in my cabinet. Since clones dont need much direct light would this work? or should I get a CFL and put above it? not sure if you can see it but its on top of the t5.

The cfl work great for cloning imo.

First I would not place propagation tray directly on the t-5. Over heat the roots, plus water and electricity do not mix.

2nd see Ozzy's post.

Just stick them in a far corner with your others. Green mojo to you.

there is no room underneath the light using the propagation dome and tray. the top of the t5 is actually cool, not the least bit hot. This is only temp maybe 30 days. once i am able to move these plants into the flower tent I will have room to put the dome and tray under the light.

IMO 30 days is too long to have them on top any light

As long as you got no nosey neighbors keep them on a window seal

what about setting them in my closet and sticking a lamp beside them with a cfl in it? would one be ok?

Yes. In winter my biggest problem is keeping things warm enough, so make sure that your temps are good.

i have a double cabinet above my stove that I dont use. I think I will stick a lamp up there with a cfl in it and put the prop dome and tray in there. would one bulb be enough? or should i put two lamps up there one on each side of the dome?

I think one bulb will be plenty........ would not put it right on top of the plants.......... the clones just need to be able to see the light...........your not trying to cause photosynteses....... just trying to cause them to sprout roots so they can then grow to reach the light......... make sure your light bulb doesn't run the temps up to high in the cabnet........ also watch the temps up there when your cooking too.

It is easy to adjust the bulb(s) to a height that does not burn the plants whether you are using 1 or 2 bulbs. Light follows the inverse square law, as the distance increases form a point source, the light intensity is decreased by the square root of the distance. For example: if you move the light 2 x the distance the light in lumens will be decreased by the square root of 2 or 4x . If it were 3 x the distance the light would decreased by 9 x. So small adjustments are easy to make and have a significant effect. If the cabinet temps begin to get too high, simply vent the space by opening the door for a little bit.

I would shoot for 75 to 80, but definitely not above 85

Monoxide, do you have a cardboard box you can use. Put holes in the top for ventilation if it is needed. Never tried it but maybe it would work.

i use a similar setup.. i have the babies on a crate in the tray with t-5 like inches over .. this allows room for your lid dome.. when its cold i turn on a seedling mat ...easy peasy....

i just set them up with a 60 watt cfl sitting beside the dome and tray. I filled up the tray below with about 3/4 inch of water is that what I am supposed to do? sp they stay wet.

It wouldn't fit in the cabinet and I know water and electricity don't mix but this was the only choice I had. If I put it in my closet, I will have the same issue as before with my daughter asking questions.

what about the water question? was I supposed to put water in the tray? everything I have read only shows how to cut clones etc. not the taking care of them once cut.

I live close to the ocean..so i dont water the tray.. I just spray under the lid for first couple days myself.... it needs to be humid in the tray... If the lamp acts as a warming matt like i use a seedling mat.. That might not be a bad thing. Keep an eye on it and keep lid moist or wet on inside at first ...
