BTW lookie what I found today

a 5 gallon tote with lid that is almost the exact size of the dishpans I have (2) been using.

it's not quite twice as tall but for now, height is NOT my problem.

combine those new totes with the 6" net pots (and tank heaters) that should be here tomorrow and I think I will, finally, have a winning combination.
(see why I'm running bag-seeds for now?)

speaking of which, the H-Depot letter/order got mailed yesterday. this will all be much easier when I only have 1 (or 2?) "guaranteed" female plants to deal with over here in VEG.

thank you for your concern MR1

this was almost as bad as when UPS delivered 3 snow tires to my place and 5 to another address

I did get the package (unopened)

this is still too close together but like I said, I wont be growing more than 1 or 2 @ a time once I start using the "magic beans"

1/2 way through the swap-over
think I'm done for the night.

I have the water level about 2-3" above the bottom of the net pot (roughly 1/2 way up)

is it normal to have the beads @ the top bone dry? They started out completely wet 20 minutes ago.

too much air flow on the beads?

WARNING: NOT a pretty picture :(

the (now gone) runt never pushed its roots into the 4" RW

I plan to sprout in RW again but I will go straight to the beads and skip the 4" next time.

thank you pcduck, I needed that!

rather than throwing the runt away, I think I'll try to save it (learn) and setup a temporary veg light-cycle over in the flower side.

the main 4 will be keeping the 4" RW in the net pot but the runt will only have the 2" and more beads.

so.... CFL or LED veg?
(oh the fun were going to have in flower huh?)

soooo cramped in here!!
but that was the space I was allowed so.. I'll MAKE it work!

stick with me MC, I may be a lil moody and over-reactive sometimes but I'd like to think I can bring something worthwhile to the table (too)
;)

That is a really small space you have there. I think you will run out of room. Do you have a back up plan for when this happens?

nope. there is no option!
this is stealth from my daughter, in the basement.

its the same 20x26 as the veg side but with no shelf killing height
taking the lights up to the very top and assuming I still use the 3.5 gal buckets, I have 41-43" of room for the plant
good thing about the CFL and LED is I can get them very close to the plant without heat issues

my plan is to veg till 18-20" tall and then hope it doesn't stretch too much in flower.
(does that sound about right?? assume it could double (+) in height during flower... depending on strain.)

EDIT:
or try to SCROG it

the original plan was
to have a few of the 3.5 gal buckets so I could set up a new batch and swap the lid over to the new bucket.
(every 2-3 weeks full drain/swap and maintenance refilling as necessary, taking into account ph swing and evaporation = higher ppm's)

but if its tied down or otherwise attached to the cabinet that wont work... hummmm

I have a few GH kits that have a PVC 90+grommit I can drill and use @ the bottom of the bucket but there wont be any siphon action as its on ground level.
I suppose I could suck it dry (no comments from the peanut galley plz) somehow, though that will only get 95% out

if I attached any support / rigging to the (net pot) lid ONLY then I could go back to the original plan... ?

obviously a subject I NEED to put more thought into.
THANK YOU 4u2 this is exactly the voice of experience I need!

EDIT
I'm hoping I will only have to go through this much stealth for a few years, but want to learn as much as possible before I can go big.
once its @ least medical in oh-high-oh I'm going as big as I can/allowed (sorry wife/daughter)
and if its more than a few years.. I'm MOVING!!
hey, let's all move to CO and start a farm!
with the combined knowledge/experience here... weed kill-it!!

winner winner chicken dinner??

I know this stuff is old hat to most of you but its all new and beautiful to me.
hope maybe you can enjoy it again

2 more and a question

everything looks A-OK, water-tight to me except....

is that "electrical box" metal nut (IN the res) going to cause issues?

couldn't find a plastic substitute for it, tried but nothing worked/fit

I hope the Runt will be happy in its new home

last of the tube (center of the roll) in the store so nice tight natural radius

2 of the 3.5 gal stacked (bottom is weighted)

LOL you know you want to be the first to say: CFL or LED or both

----

4:20am Veg side done

talk about @ MAX capacity !!
I'm just thinking of how easy it will be when I only have 1 tote

the Runt might have to sit in the RW for a few hours more [yawn]

I would only worry about the metal nut rusting and contaminating the res...can you coat it with a rubber seal of some sort?...maybe even cover it with Hot clue to seal over it??....rooms are looking good....And I still get excited when trying something new....or watching someone get excited about they own grow....its a Passion for me...My next question?....you plan to keep this a secret from Daughter...what have to got for the flower room as for Scrubber..odor control?

Your set up looks good, but I wouldn't leave/have that metal washer in there. There has to be a place near you to get a nylon washer. If you can't find one, you can get one on line. Isn't it a pain in the butt when you can't find one final part?

I don't specifically know that the metal washer will harm your plants, it just seems like a problem waiting to happen.

And watching people explore the world of weed growing never gets old.................even for us old people.

rust....? isn't rust itself still a mineral as far as its makeup? isn't it simply just iron in some sorta form? I know iron wont hurt nothing. especially if its just a small nut throwin off a lil bit of rust now n then.

Zitat
Ferric iron (rust) is insoluble unless the pH is well below 6 and is only very slightly soluble at pH6.

I will keep on the hunt for a better nut. it has to thread onto the (pipe thread) as it's what I'm using to put pressure on the O-ring from the inside.

I'm running twin 70 CFM bathroom fans (squirrel cage) in parallel using 4" duct, pulling through a 4" x 20" (Lo-Pro) Phresh Filter cylindrical carbon scrubber

the original Vortex fan seemed overkill even with a speed controller so I stepped down to 1 bathroom fan, then I started turning lights on and the cabinet overheated so I needed to add another.

never know if/when I may need the fan + silencer so they will sit on a shelf for someday

DoB: '72 here (not too far behind some)
its not about age, more about how many plants you've grown :P
glad to hear it don't get old... I literally jumped for joy when I saw the first lil root sticking out of the bag-seeds I germinated
lol the wife about fell over laughing @ me

I think you may be able to try this. I don't think that fitting has tapered threads so you might try this with another spare fitting the same kind or the one you are using now. Measure first to see how much thread you need first to see if it will work.
